Bruce Bugbee

Bruce Bugbee has more than 40 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 17 years as a national partner in charge of thrift institution consulting with KPMG Peat Marwick’s consulting group. His finely tuned problem-solving skills, strategic vision, and collaborative working style have made him a trusted advisor to bank CEOs and directors nationwide.

While at KPMG, he advised more than 100 financial institutions, both large and small, on:

  • workflow analysis;
  • reorganization, downsizing, and implementation of financial controls;
  • branch profitability and location analysis;
  • compensation studies; and
  • design and implementation of management reporting systems.

He instilled in his staff a philosophy that published reports did little to help clients unless recommendations were successfully implemented. As a result, his staff became managers of change rather than passive advisors, a working model he promotes to this day as an independent consultant.

During Bruce’s time with KPMG, he grew the company’s national thrift consulting practice from $500,000 in annual revenues to over $15 million while supervising a staff of more than 200 professionals spread across 17 offices nationwide.

Since leaving KPMG, he has continued to provide professional consulting services to a wide array of financial institutions. For example, he served as interim CEO of a bank and led, for the Resolution Trust Company (RTC), the loan servicing operation for a $4 billion portfolio. He also helped to establish USAA Bank in San Antonio, Texas, now an $80 billion plus financial institution.
